Versailles, Indiana has played an important role in southeastern Indiana for more than two centuries. Established in 1818 and incorporated in 1845, the town became the county seat of Ripley County and grew as a center for local government, business, and community life. The historic Ripley County Courthouse, completed in 1864, remains one of the town’s most recognizable landmarks. Versailles was also connected to events surrounding Morgan’s Raid during the Civil War era. Today, the community continues to celebrate its history while offering a welcoming small-town atmosphere, local gathering places, and easy access to Versailles State Park.
