History

The History of South Cumminsville South Cumminsville traces its roots to the larger community of Cumminsville, which developed along Cincinnati’s Mill Creek corridor during the 1800s. Cumminsville was incorporated in 1865 and became part of the City of Cincinnati in 1873. Over time, the southern portion developed its own identity as South Cumminsville, becoming home to generations of families and a strong African American community. The construction of Interstate 74 in the 1970s physically separated South Cumminsville from what is now Northside, further shaping the neighborhood’s distinct character. Today, South Cumminsville remains a close-knit Cincinnati community with deep roots, residential streets, local organizations, and a strong commitment to neighborhood improvement.
