What started as a roadside tavern four miles from downtown in 1852 grew into a railroad stop, then a bustling village named in 1869 for Reverend Maurice Oakley. A famous race track thrilled crowds from 1888 to 1907, the Cincinnati Milling Machine Company brought jobs in 1905, and Aglamesis Bro’s opened its doors in 1913. Annexed to the city that same year, Oakley built its charming square in the late 1920s and the iconic Twentieth Century Theatre in 1941.
